The Veil Nebula, a sprawling supernova remnant in the constellation Cygnus, is one of the most intricate and photogenic targets in the northern sky. Using my Redcat 51mm f/4.9 refractor paired with the ZWO ASI2600MC-Pro, I was able to capture the expansive wisps and delicate filaments of ionized gas that span nearly 3 degrees across the sky—a perfect fit for this wide-field setup.
With the addition of the Optolong L-eNhance filter, I isolated the nebula's rich H-alpha and OIII emission even under Bortle 6/7 skies in Portsmouth. The Redcat’s sharp optics and flat field made it ideal for preserving star shapes across the frame, allowing me to showcase the complex shock fronts and subtle structures of this ancient explosion, estimated to be over 8,000 years old.
