NGC 2264 is a designation from the New General Catalogue that collectively refers to two astronomical objects: the Cone Nebula and the Christmas Tree Cluster. While the Snowflake Cluster and the Fox Fur Nebula are also found in the same region, they are not officially included under the NGC 2264 designation. All of these objects are located in the constellation Monoceros, approximately 720 parsecs (2,300 light-years) from Earth. Thanks to its relative closeness and considerable size, NGC 2264 has been extensively studied. Though it is sometimes referred to simply as the Christmas Tree Cluster or the Cone Nebula, the official designation applies to both features together—not just the cluster.
