NGC 6992

NGC 6992 - Eastern Veil

The Eastern Veil, also known as Caldwell 33, features its brightest region as NGC 6992. This area extends further south into NGC 6995, and together with NGC 6992, they are collectively referred to as the "Network Nebula." Additionally, it includes IC 1340.

The Veil Nebula, found in the constellation Cygnus, is a striking cloud of ionized gas and dust. It represents the observable segments of the Cygnus Loop, a supernova remnant with various regions that have distinct names and catalog numbers. This remnant resulted from a supernova explosion of a star twenty times the mass of the Sun, which occurred between 10,000 and 20,000 years ago.Â
