NGC 6946, also known as the Fireworks Galaxy, is an intermediate spiral galaxy viewed face-on, featuring a small, bright nucleus. It is situated at the boundary between the northern constellations of Cepheus and Cygnus. The galaxy is approximately 25.2 million light-years (7.72 megaparsecs) from Earth, a distance comparable to that of M101 (NGC 5457) in the constellation Ursa Major. Originally thought to be part of the Local Group, both galaxies are now recognized as part of a group of bright spiral galaxies neighboring the Milky Way but outside the Local Group's limits. NGC 6946 is located within the Virgo Supercluster.  The galaxy was discovered by William Herschel on September 9, 1798.
