The Triangulum Galaxy, also known as Messier 33 or NGC 598, is a spiral galaxy located approximately 2.73 million light-years from Earth in the constellation Triangulum. With an isophotal diameter (D25) of 18.74 kiloparsecs (about 61,100 light-years), it ranks as the third-largest galaxy within the Local Group, following the Andromeda Galaxy and the Milky Way.

This galaxy is the second-smallest spiral galaxy in the Local Group, with only the Large Magellanic Cloud—a Magellanic-type spiral galaxy—being smaller. Astronomers believe the Triangulum Galaxy might be a satellite of the Andromeda Galaxy or possibly moving back towards it after a previous interaction, given their relative velocities and proximity in the sky. Additionally, the Triangulum Galaxy features an H II nucleus, indicating regions of active star formation.
